Behind each cell is a piece of audio such as an audio byte, midi pattern or sample, by manipulating the sequence of audio/midi/sample clips musicians, DJ's and novices can effectively chain together their own unique audio performance. What the Akai APC20 does is replace the screen display with an interactive touch-button controller that can be activated in realtime and can store audio clips transferred from external sources. Once the APC20 is connecetd to a laptop or PC it automatically maps all the relevant control parameters to the control buttons and audio faders on the control surface so it's actually plug and play and ready for live use ... The Akai APC20 comes packaged with Ableton live software and the Clip Matrix gives you an instant view of clip status, ie what's loaded, what's playing, and what's being recorded on the APC20. Each state displays in the grid in a different colour so you can get a quick overall picture of the clip status.
